The Characters!

Unlike Earthbound, Guile of an Assassin's characters are much more fleshed-out and feature more complex backstories. In fact, much of the plot revolves around the characters, and not the quest at hand. Specifically, there are two characters who are the most prominent and featured in the game.

RORIC

The main character of the adventure. He is quiet and mostly keeps to himself, only taking action when necessary or otherwise forced to. He assists his brother, Rikel, in running the Rubiss Assassin Guild. Most of Rubiss' members have come to either trust Roric for his dedication and contributions to the guild, or shamelessly blame his for his brother's idiotic management. He is increasingly reluctant to people who mistreated him back in Tyrefell city, and dreads the day when he will have to eventually tie the loose ends of conflicts rather forgotten. Roric usually takes the lead in most of the guild's active operations, since he is much more adept at combat and stealthier than his brother.

RIKEL

Roric's loudmouthed, idiotic older brother. He is the founder and leader of the Rubiss Assassin Guild. It is a mystery of how he found the motivation to establish such an organization, much less physically do it. When questioned on it, he will answer "It seemed like a pretty cool idea at the time." Rikel is loud, bumbling, and irrational. As such, the members of Rubiss question his lack of organization and teamwork. For some reason or other, he wears a Jester's outfit. If not for his potent combat magic, he would be completely useless otherwise to everyone who knows him. On the bright side, he has a unique talent of waking everyone up at three in the morning for no reason.

-----------

Those are the two most prominent characters for now, and I'll reveal more as the game progresses. As for game progress itself, the first major city is finished, as well as the second dungeon. Check back for more screens in the coming days!

Guile of an Assassin dev blog open!

Well I didn't get around to it until now, but the dev blog for Guile of an Assassin is now open!

So you're probably all wondering now: What is "Guile of an Assassin?" More or less, it's a hack of the famous SNES RPG, Earthbound.

I've always admired Earthbound colorful visuals and unique sense of humor. Topped with a sturdy battle formula and upbeat music, it's a game i've always enjoyed. And thanks to PK Hack, people can now edit the game and change various things about it while retaining the nostalgia that Earthbound is so well-known for. Which is exactly what I aim to do.

Guile of an Assassin will use all the great things that made Earthbound exciting and turn it into an entirely new experience with new characters, new storyline, redrawn maps, and a new world. It will tell the story of Roric; a quiet man who assists his older brother, Rikel, in running an assassination business. While it sounds dark and grim, the business itself is composed of a melancholy bunch of childish members who question why they joined in the first place. Roric and Rikel receive their first assassination request from an unknown client. Little do they know what kind of client it really is...

Either way, this project is still very early in the works, but here's some screenshots of what to expect.
